Baby alpaca is one of the finest and softest natural fibres in the world. It is warmer than sheep's wool, as soft as cashmere and completely hypoallergenic. It also is very durable, sustainable and eco friendly, Due to it's long straight fibre, it performs very well when washed in accordance with our care instructions that minimise the possibility of shrinkage.

Did you know this about the Alpaca Animals?

The Alpaca animals mainly are farmed in the very high and flat altiplano area in the Andes Mountain Range, in the regions of Arequipa, Cusco and Puno in Peru, and around Lake Titicaca in Bolivia.

The farm settlements and land in the altiplano are remarkably similar to the highland crofts of Scotland, but are often to be found about 3000 to 4500 metres above sea level.

The animals graze on the natural grasses and, crisp lichen type plants to be found at these high altitudes that help to keep their teeth healthy and sharp, and their animal hair long and very fine.

If taken down to low altitudes, where richer soft meadow type grasses grow, this natural diet change affects their metabolism, and their hair thickens very considerably, and the softness of the grazing, does not giving the cleaning benefits to their teeth of the crisp lichens found at the high altitudes.

Our baby alpaca products are made from the first shearing of young alpacas, producing an incredibly soft, long, and luxurious fibre. This animal fibre has an average cross-section of 21.5 microns, ranking it amongst the finest of natural animal hairs.

This product was manufactured in one of the factories we use in Peru, using very modern electronic flat knitting machines. The component body, sleeve and neck panels use shaping in the knitting, to produce beautiful luxury knitwear that has virtually 0% waste.
